What a Way To Start The YEAR! (Good & Bad)
Well, its been a somewhat CRAZY start to 2007 for me. January 2, 2007 was my first day on the job for the City of Los Angeles, General Services Department, Office of Public Safety. So one can say that it was the best start of any year for me. I am really happy and excited about this new page in my life. Working here has opened a room with tons of doors to various good jobs. And most if not all of them, are high paying ones. For example, the one I have now, is High Paying but compared to other jobs in the City, its sort of at the mid-range level. But nonetheless I am happy. We are called Security Officers, but unlike private security where I was at before. We can do alot more than just observe and report. Here we have more responsibilities, and as "First Responders" we have more training to handle more incidents. We can also give parking tickets, we can detain people, arrest them and in some cases book them with GSD Police. We are not regular security officers. And thats what I also like about it, that we do not get looked down upon by others at our work site. In fact its the complete opposite. So yea its a good job, and its a very feel good type of work, you know? And oh, the start pay is 19.44 an hour! and the highest it goes from there...well its about 23 an hour. And for me thats like WHOA big time money. The only downside to this job is that who I work for GSD, is in the middle of a power struggle with the Managers of the work site. GSD just took over, and are going to change things to the way THEY run it, but the people at the work site who run the place don't like it. For example, all other GSD sites require that the officers wear the dark uniforms. Here all the officers wear white shirts. Which makes us look like private security. And also, they want us to put their labels under the GSD patches on our shirts. That to me is not right as we are not working for them but for GSD. If GSD ever decides to pull out, I'm staying with GSD and not them. You know? but we'll see what happens. But for now I'll just enjoy my new job and my new High Step up in life.
