Horrible Accident, Awesome Ending!

For those of you who watch motorsports, you'll definetley know about Katherine Legge's crash at last Sunday's Champ Car event at Road America. Well, I saw it too and I have to say, I was shocked. My first reaction and thought was, how it looked in a way like Greg Moore's crash at Fontana in 1999. The way the car broke apart and how only the driver's cell was left in place. Of course, the only difference between then and now is that we didn't loose a driver. As it was obviously stated, it wasn't her fault. Her rear wing came off and caused her car to go out of control. But the crash showed something very positive in champcar. The sport is safer than it ever was, And I think after this year, it will get only better. 30 minutes after legge's crash, she was out and about walking like if nothing happend and its something amzing to see if you see how bad the crash really was. She's lucky that she did not hit the the wall head on, and lucky that the car did what it was suppose to do. The sidepod's, nose and engine all collapsed and broke apart to absorb the engery from the crash. It was all an amazing sight, but scary and heartstopping non the less. I'm glad she came out ok, and that yea it was bad, but it just goes to show how far saftey has come in terms of surviving a crash that just 5 to 10 years ago, would probably been fatal. I know some may disagree with me on this but her crash looked FAR worse than Ayrton Senna's crash...but out of respect, his crash was still very horrible. I guess my point would be that motorsport saftey has greatly evolved into what it is now. And it will only keep evolving. Maybe someday they can develop a technology, a new type of system that will in turn prevent a crash from happening in the first place. But being that I doubt that will EVER happen. All I can say is, motorsport will forever be dangerous, no matter what car what track or what driver is involved, the danger level will always be high. Its a dangerous sport, and one that will never be safe...or atleast 100% safe.
