Security Vs. The Public

Ok, something has been bugging me latley, and its something I deal with everyday. I work security for the state of california. I guard a building in the Los Angeles area. And in this building we have an Xray and metal detector machine combo. Anyone who enters has to follow the security procedures before they can enter. The rules that are in place arent difficult. Same rules apply that are in use at LAX with the exception of shoes. And a new one we've done is the removal of all belts. Well, most of the time people's reaction to this "rule" varies. Some say this, "belts!?, are you serious?"..others say "OH!?? Beeeelts....ok"... I really dont mind getting the 2nd reaction but usually and for the past few weeks it has happend 2 to 3 times a day. We get someone who thinks they're better than all of us, and say "oh I dont have to take off my belt, it never goes off"....well we usually say "weather it goes off or not, you still have to take off your belt" and their response is this, "but iT NEVER GOES OFF!!!"....and we say what we said again, and they're like "you guys are fucken stupid, fuck you" and this is exactly what this one guy said last thursday, and after saying that, we told him to leave, and at first he wasnt leaving but since there's no other way to get in, he had no choice and left. These are only but a FEW incidents we get at work. Most of the time they get crazy, but they do what they're told. Why do people react to this. We had to implement this rule because about 2 months ago, we had an individual enter our building with a gun in the belt. We were checking belts, but only if they went off when the person carrying it crossed the metal detector. But now they all must take off the belt and its a rule that only takes about 3 seconds to do, 4 or more if your bigger. But its for their own saftey and yet they react like its a HUGE problem. The point is that people are not that greatfull to us security officers who yea, we just stand there all day (8 to 10 hours on our feet) trying to prevent anyone with a bad agenda entering our building. I hope things change and people understand that we do this because there are people out there who are out there to hurt you, and will do anything to do it. And we are there to stop them...or atleast help stop them. Here's hoping for the best.
